The meeting began with Roy giving some background to the upcoming exhibition at Rosemoor in May and a heads-up about the workshop at the end of March (29th).
Roy worked on Mick’s mugo pine while Kev gave Matt some pointers on styling his juniper, which he followed up by getting the scissors out!
Nigel brought in an interesting 3 trunked hawthorn with two potential fronts plus options to remove one of the trunks. We managed by committee to arrive at a front and a decision to keep all three trunks. It should eventually be a fine tree. He also brought in a larch which would have needed long term work to make into a decent tree and so he decided to incorporate it into an existing group planting.
Kev helped Berice to repot a small semi-cascade maple, she also brought in some fuschia(?) cuttings.
Alan’s larch continues to develop well, he has now brought up a leader which will be cut back eventually to develop a crown.
Brought in for display where Roy’s hollow trunked forsythia, my “leaning over water” literati pine and Kev had three trees, most notable of which was a Chinese yew (or was it Japanese?) with exquisite bark and tufted intense green foliage.
A good meeting with signs of spring just around the corner!
See you at the workshop.
